The Monkey (2025)

I was so looking forward to this from the trailer and all the hype.

But I don’t know if other people saw a different edit of this to me as in the end this was just a pedestrian film that was OK for a watch on a quite morning on my day off.

Everyone sold this as a Looney Tunes gorefest of a film, with whacky and zany around every corner and though it did have it’s moments and I did bark-laugh out loud at a couple of the more convoluted deaths, it just didn’t quite hit the spot I was expecting.

The coroner said it was an accident, but it was no accident. It was the monkey.

I just wonder if this was because they went for the 15 rating which meant it couldn’t quite swing with full force and take it to that next level.

There were some great little set pieces and the setup for these were fun to watch unfurl, and the little montage of deaths in small town Maine was fun.

The acting was spot on for the most part which meant that even though the film as a whole wasn’t excellent it was good.

Overall a good enough film but fell flat as I was expecting so much more, expecting non-stop, expecting anvils from the sky, expecting but it didn’t quite deliver.
